Morehead St., Chattanooga, and CS-Northridge won their conference tournaments and received automatic bids. Respect or lack thereof had nothing to do with those teams being in the NCAA tournament. What I have a problem with is 7 teams from the Big 10. Aside from Michigan St. and Purdue, that is a pretty weak conference. I also have a problem with Maryland. Yes they play in the ACC, but they were 7-9 in conference. I don't think a team with a losing conference record should get an at-large. I also have a big problem with Texas A&M. The computers obviously haven't seen them play. They aren't very good.

I believe that KSU doesn't deserve to be in the NCAA at this point. We controlled our own destiny and we failed. We could have won at OSU, but lost. We could have beaten UT in the Big 12 tournament, but lost. The NCAA tourney committee looked at the whole season, and our pre-conference schedule was awful. We lost to Kentucky, Iowa, and Oregon, none of whom made the tournament. Oregon was easily the worst team in a bad PAC-10 conference this year. KSU needs to go out now and at least win a couple in the NIT to maybe prove that we belonged. If we lay an egg and lose to Illinois St., then everybody will just say "I told you so."

you're right on the money, bubba. there were other colleges with records the same or worse as ours and no better with wins over tough teams, but they got in. unfortunately, we lost a couple that we should have won that really hurt us. we also won some truly awesome games this year. even the best teams are beatable on any certain day, as evidenced by some of the top teams that got in.

drifter: thanks for the "insight". as usual, you delivered just as expected.

yes, bandit. you are right. we controlled our destiny and despite some games of brilliance we didn't sustain it and get some wins that we should have had. and being on the bubble (barely) we were edged out by those teams that won a tourney to get in.
next year looks brighter as that these talented young players continue to improve and mature.

Synopsis: You're right Bubba, we should be in the tourney. Look at those other teams with records close to us.

i had no trouble following what i was saying, disagreeing with, or agreeing with, drifter. although i wanted my team in, i knew it wasn't likely this year as the season wound down. i knew the difficulty of our schedule was not what it might have been, i knew we lost some important games we were capable of winning, i knew we had some awesome wins, as well. and i do know that we do not get the respect that we deserve from time to time--just as i know sometimes we play like seventh graders. i can usually see the whole picture--and i don't usually just make snide comments.
hope that clarified it for you.

Didn't you know that if you won your conference tourney you get an automatic bid? That's the beauty of the whole thing..is that all 65 bids don't go to the power conferences.

At Colorado? You shouldn't even MENTION Colorado when you talk about tourney justification..

You can't lose to 5 teams that didn't make the tourney, fail to win the conference, and fail to win the conference tourney and expect to get a bid. I thought KSU had a slight chance, but wasn't surprised to hear them not get invited.

I agree with that. I don't know how you take A&M but not KSU. I thought it was a double or nothing kind of deal.

Also agree with Maryland. Cal nor Zona deserved it either..

I didn't know that those other teams won their conference tourney. If they ain't Big 12 I don't follow them. The reason I brought up Colorado is because it was a road win. Most teams can win at home it is a feat to win on the road, especially in the Big 12, in my opinion.

I also wasn't surprised they didn't get in, but I was surprised at all the other "bubble" teams with equal or worse records that did get in.

Texas A&M got in because they are from Texas, they have a wealthy alumni base, and Texas has a bigger population than we do up here. That means more money in the tourney by having more butts in the seats spending $$$$. That's my opinion on that.
