I have several friends who are in the "wildlife management" business, mostly trapping nusance animals and reptiles, that provide "guide service" for gentleman hunters, (yankees) that want "trophy" hogs. Mostly they run 'em down with dogs and provide a "can't miss" kind of hunt. they put out a good product for around $200.00 a day, lunch included, and will butcher and pack your trophy, no extra charge.
The hot lick this season is to get up close and personal with the pig, after runing him down with dogs, and kill him with a knife. This gives the E.R.guys something to do when the "nimrod" sticks the "long pig" instead of the one with long hair and a bad attitude, or worse, cuts one of the dogs. (insert the "darwin award "story of your choice here)
I've worked for several landowners that let me take a pig, now and then, for free, 'cause I trap and geld a dozen or so each spring for them and "free range "em for summer bar-b-que's.(somebody has to eat those "oysters") We paint mark them so they're easy to find later and freez 'em, gutted and skinned, for a week or so to kill off any nasty bacteria. Pork and swamp cabbage, cooked in the woods is pure heaven. (oh, yea, a cold beer or 3 is required)
January to April is the most comfortable time of year to hunt them, the deer hunters keep them on the move and the weather is moderate. Runnin' thru the swamp in August ain't much fun.

Let me give you a piece of advice though Texie, don't lay down in a trail!! Climb a tree and just shoot 'em!! They are still "ferocious" little bastards!!
