Hog Huntin... Florida style..

Even Southern Kansas has feral hogs.
Anywho, here's a little something from another board:

I have several friends who are in the "wildlife management" business, mostly trapping nusance animals and reptiles, that provide "guide service" for gentleman hunters, (yankees) that want "trophy" hogs. Mostly they run 'em down with dogs and provide a "can't miss" kind of hunt. they put out a good product for around $200.00 a day, lunch included, and will butcher and pack your trophy, no extra charge.
The hot lick this season is to get up close and personal with the pig, after runing him down with dogs, and kill him with a knife. This gives the E.R.guys something to do when the "nimrod" sticks the "long pig" instead of the one with long hair and a bad attitude, or worse, cuts one of the dogs. (insert the "darwin award "story of your choice here)
I've worked for several landowners that let me take a pig, now and then, for free, 'cause I trap and geld a dozen or so each spring for them and "free range "em for summer bar-b-que's.(somebody has to eat those "oysters") We paint mark them so they're easy to find later and freez 'em, gutted and skinned, for a week or so to kill off any nasty bacteria. Pork and swamp cabbage, cooked in the woods is pure heaven. (oh, yea, a cold beer or 3 is required)
January to April is the most comfortable time of year to hunt them, the deer hunters keep them on the move and the weather is moderate. Runnin' thru the swamp in August ain't much fun.
Ya'll cone see us now, ya hear? RED

There were lots of feral pigs in southern Clark County. Caused lots of damage and were overpopulating until a helicopter/shootist was brought in by our Wildlife department and reduced their numbers.

The ones around here are not those "big porkers" like they have in Florida. The ones I have seen near Dodge are pigs that have recently gotten loose and went "wild". The hogs in Florida are "big muthas" and have been in the wild for decades. I have seen those "swamp hogs" and you definitely don't want to mess with them. I know of one guy who had his truck knocked off of alligator alley by a big tusker.

Now I don't know nuthin bout huntin hogs...... All I know is I had some that was smoked. Fellow cop friend of my DIL sent some over for Xmas. Jesus the absolute best ham I have ever tasted. I usually don't like wild game - like deer, duck, etc........ but I gotta tell ya this was awsome. Kinda makes ya wanna lay down in a trail in East Texas with a machettie just to get some more of that meat!!......... Those in Fl. look a little too big to me thos. Don't think I could survive the huntin trip!!

Well some things in Texas are bigger....... and then there are those things that are the same no matter where ya go. I personally am not a hunter - I'm a cooker and eater. I have always heard those little critters are mean as hell so I can just imagine what a big would be like.

I can garuntee ya I would never be in a huntin party. Just don't pass me by for din din........
