| Detector for sale I'm looking to upgrade to a new detector and now is a good chance to get into the hobby fairly cheap. I am selling my factory fresh Whites Spectrum XLT. I just it back from the Whites factory where I had them check it over and freshen it up. You can find more info on this detector here http://www.whiteselectronics.com/xltw.php There is only one model above this one. This is one great detector for both novice and expert. I will also be happy to spend some time with the buyer until they feel comfortable using it. This detector sells for $899 but I will take $400. Granted, this is a lot of money for a first detector, but if your serious about finding 'The Good Stuff' and hope to invest some time detecting, you will end up with a detector like this sooner of later.

| Dectector, That's a cheap price for such a good detector. I know, I already own one. I bought mine used for $700.00 A friend bought it and used it once and did not like it. He offered it to me over 3 years ago. I grabbed it up. I would think it would be difficult to up-grade. What are you looking to buy? Just curious! |

| I'm probably going to try the Minelab Explorer II. I'm still doing some comparing between it and a Whites DFX. The big difference in the technology of the XLT I now own and these two are the XLT is a single frequency machine and the others are dual(DFX) and 20(Exp II). A detectors depth and sensitivity are determined by its frequency. A low frequency(1.5khz) has great depth but less sensitive to smaller targets. A higher frequency(100khz) is very sensitive to small targets but not very good penetration. The DFX(Dual Frequency of 1.5khz and 100khz) gives the best of both worlds. The Explorer II shoots 20 different frequencies(1.5khz-100khz) for even more versatility. I hear the Exp II has better depth but is difficult to operate.

| Detector, My buddy also has a Minelab. He says it's difficult to use and heavy. I've seen and used it. I do not like it because of the display ability and weight. Although it uses multiple freq.,Ive had more luck with the XLT. I'd like to try the White's DFX. Looks like a good detector. Good luck in your choice. Let me know what you choose and how it works! Thanks! |

| Thanks Mike. Is your friends Minelab the Explorer II? I'd be curious to see one first hand before I buy one. I've heard they are heavy but I swung the old Whites Eagle Spectrum for 13 years and it's much heavier than the XLT. The XLT is a great machine and I've done very well with it I'm just hoping the multi frequency will give me what I'm looking for. I've been detecting Wright Park for many years but the gold has managed to evade me so far. I know its there I just need a machine with a better ability to find it. Don't get me wrong the XLT will find gold just as good but you need to dig lots of trash to find it. As you probably know gold reads in the same area as pull-tabs and aluminum foil unless its a medium sized 10k ring which reads around 18-22. I'm hoping the multiple frequencies give more detail on a target making it easier to tell gold from aluminum. First off, I won't dig a target in Wright Park no matter what I think it is if I have the slightest notion I might damage the grass. First and foremost I leave a site exactly, if not better, than I found it. The only way you can tell I've been there is all the trash is gone on that area. Few things make me madder than finding signs that another detector has been in the park by leaving unfilled holes or damaged grass. I found a guy from Use-less detecting the park one day leaving holes and I made him stop and repair every hole. I appreciate my ability to detect Wring Park and I don't need some jerk screwing it up. There's a lot of gold(rings, etc) to be found at the park with the right machine. There is an area just north of the band shell roughly 20' out from the wall(little brick one) near the street that is virtually untouched. It is so littered with iron bottle caps you can't hunt it. If a guy was to have the time to clean out the caps I'm sure there is lots of goodies to be had. I'm hoping having multiple frequencies will also be able to read between all this iron. Some day maybe we could do some hunting.

| Dectector, You are right about alot of good stuff in Wright Park. I've found several rings along with some older coins. My best find was a diamond ring with 9 diamonds in a horse shoe shape. I took it to Doug at K-Martin, he said they were real diamonds. I checked out the corn field last Wed. looks like it has been planted with wheat. I guess we should now call it the wheat field! (LOL) Let me know anytime when you want to go hunting! Week-ends are best for me. Maybe John can come with us and my friend Arnold. |
