| I LOVE the new smilies!!! Thanks, admin! Cabbage? In WalMart? Well, aren't you just progressive! I had no idea you got a super walmart in Dodge. Did it have a big impact on grocery prices at other stores (Dillons, AG)? We have a super Wally's and a Super Target, both about the same distance from us.....can't say their prices are any better than anybody else's. Sometimes they don't stock as many brands as everybody else. Anyway - that was off the subject. Too funny, Lurker. Do you think the counter at the top of the page had anything to do with it? And to think I almost contributed to the cause. ![]()

| Wal-Mart has impacted Dillons alot. Their meat department is sub-select on beef, but chicken & Pork products better and usually cheaper.. It's easy to say but hard to prove but I was a modest financial supporter prior to the sig hijack. As you might remember, they said that it was "OWNED" by DCT and I wasn't planning on supporting them unless and until they formally gave it back to lurker.... That was my position.... And I think I reminded them that I was unhappy. Even in direct emails to lo-well.

| What, you think we are "hicks in the sticks"? Walmart is not my choice for meat or produce, but normally the rest of the stuff is a little cheaper. However, it is hard for me to support a company that has put so many local people out of business. On top of that, if you go and ask them to help you with a local project, they tell you to "take a hike"!! One big problem that is becoming inherent, is that if Walmart don't have it----then you may be outta luck-----or have to go to another city to purchase it.Send us some of those restaurants, muffin!! We sure miss those!! |

| Yeah, I know DHF, what I meant is that with Walmart driving other local business out, then the selection becomes smaller and smaller. And at night, if Walmart don't have it, then you do without. As far as I know, they are the only one open 24 hpd anymore, except for Kwik Shop. |

| Wal(of China)-Mart is really nothing more than a large convenience store. Their prices are good for commodity items; but exotic items come from other sources.

| I didn't realize pickin's were so slim down there. That sucks. From what I've seen in other smaller towns, Wally's stays open later, has lower prices and decent customer service. Until they've driven all the smaller guys out of business. Then the prices go back to normal, they adjust their hours and, well....customer service is nonexistent. I'm surprised to hear that they tell ya to take a hike for fund raisers, though. That must be a local thing. Up here, the K of C are there selling their Tootsie Rolls, they let a couple of Scout troops set up tables to sell excess cookies, the boy scouts sell excess popcorn and the firefighters have their boots out there for the Jerry Lewis Telethon. I haven't ever bought groceries in Wally's - only once in Target. It just takes too much trouble to wrangle them to your car a football field away. Besides that, we usually only go to the local stores for milk and bread (and sweets), and there's a Hen House that's close.....with a bakery.....

Oh, just great. Now you've even gone and ruined my vision of the OTHER giant. I've seen the signs they post (huge) in their store about the money they give back to the community - and the scholarships and such. I don't know how much the scholarships are....but I do know when my oldest worked there in his teens and early college years, he wasn't eligible for a scholarship because he had a job. Now, mind you, a minimum wage job and a dad that didn't contribute. And a mom - well, that was the baaaad marriage - nuff said. They aren't the best community steward, either - they prey on local businesses, take tax cuts where they can, and on and on. What are we going to do? Unless we all agree to spend our dollars somewhere else...but then after they've run anybody else out of business, where else will there be to shop?
