I've read somewhere that Chinese were imported to help lay the railroad with a promise of free land. Of course the government didn't follow through with the promise, and with nowhere to go, they went underground. At one point there was a complete city under dodge complete with a red-light district.

Most of the downtown businesses had an access to this underground city and used it often. Sometimes it was used during Prohibition to avoid raids and sometimes it was used to just remain anonymous when people of status wished to visit the brothels.

I have heard that same thing, but like you I can't remember where I heard it from.

I can tell you that there is a partial one under the front street by The Steer, I have been in it, I got to it by way of The Locker Room, it goes about as far as the Trail of Fame Medalion right there, as when the workers were cutting the concrete, they about cut right into the electrical lines that feed the electrical boxes in that area. On another note, I was told that at 1st and Wyatt Earp or between Wyatt Earp and Front Street, where the big metal plates are in the street, there is a HUGE underground phone system, any truth to that?

I know that there are alot of utility lines in tunnels in the downtown area.

for those of you that are 'older' like me...you will remember that a lot of the stores in downtown Dodge had elevators that came up (usually to the front of the store) to the sidewalk. They would then unload freight from trucks and then put in on the elevator and store the merchandise in their basements. The sidewalks in downtown used to be covered with large metal
doors layed into the sidewalk. I really think that most 'tunnels' under downtown were for utility work and most of them weren't dug until the early part of the twentieth century.
Dodge has a lot of history if only people knew how interesting it is.

Sure...the Boothill Drive In. My date and I fell asleep during a movie once (it was about 1966 or so) and they came over and knocked on the car window and asked if we would leave. There wasn't a car in the lot and the movie had been over about 30 minutes. Always made me remember the Everly Brothers hit 'Wake Up Little Susie'. Ah those were the days.....

We used to sneak in by hiding in the trunk. Sometimes, they would forget to let us out!!

Growing up in Hollywood addition I used to sneak in to the Boothill Drive In all the time.

I think we all had good memories from the boothill drive-in, just wish we could go back in the day to relive some of them, lol
