| during the fifties we played a lot of baseball on the Central School playground...Northeast corner. For football we played in the park in the 1300 block of Ave C. We spent a lot of time flying kites in the old cemetery in the 1500 block of Ave C. No home were there at that time. |

| Bugs, that's exactly where I played softball. I wasn't any good, but there was always a pick-up game at Central school. Then you probly remember Rollie May's Little Store, huh?

| Oh Boy...Rollie May's...He and his wife. I think I lived in that store. Then there was the Oak Street Grocery between 1st and 2nd on the same street and Ave D Grocery. Then there was a little grocery store at 1000 6th. They used to be all over. I remember when the Rainbow Bread man would make deliveries and sometimes he would have the miniature loaves of bread he would give us kids. Mom had a charge account at Rollie's but had to close it after we would buy all the neighborhood kids candy and pop. Do you remember when they would have summer rec at Central School? Ah...those were the days. I sure wouldn't want to be a kid today. |
