True HighwayMan, When the American Legion took off the beer can, word had it that the Historical Society was not Happy. What sucks is nobody from the American Legion even hardly went down to Freds, Some Legion Members thought Freds was not good enough for them, but what is? They don't even go to their brand new club that they built years ago that they have on south 14th. But oh Well its gone now but it should have been saved.

I don’t remember it getting the beer can paint job back when it became Fred’s II.

I remember going to II with my daughter years ago. Got a lot of funny looks and comments. When I told them it was my daughter we got the old, “Yeah, right, whatever you say.” Maybe I didn’t look old enough to have an adult kid. Yeah, that’s it.

It didn't get the paint job back, not after the American Legion Sandblasted it off. My understanding is that Stann Herd did that painting for 50 bucks and free beer and food, it was one of his first art works in Kansas. that place was all around historical monument..for one it was an old barracks, the beer can, and Stan Herd to name a few. Too bad so sad to see it go.

Right you are! Mr. Herd is an amazing artist.
