Business opportunities in Dodge City
Career fair set for March 27

It's time to update your resume and break out your sharpest suit. The Dodge City Area Career and Job Fair is returning for the second year Tuesday, March 27.
From 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., approximately 30-40 area employers will be gathered at the National Guard Armory, 2120 First Ave. This event is an opportunity for anybody looking to break into the work force or venture into another career.

"They should come as prepared as if they were going into a company for an interview," said Melissa McCoy, director of business, industry and continuing education at Dodge City Community College.



Attendees are advised to bring multiple copies of their resumes and dress in business attire.

Anyone who wishes to attend will be able to visit with representatives from various employers in and around Dodge City and possibly even interview for a job that day.

The career and job fair is geared not only towards high school and college students, but also towards anyone in the market for a new job.

Even those who are currently employed are encouraged to "come by during the lunch hour and check out the different employers," said Joann Knight, vice president of the Dodge City/Ford County Development Corp.

Although most of the business representatives will be looking for full-time employees, many also have summer jobs available. Dodge City Community College will also have representatives from its technical programs on site.

Those who attend will have the opportunity to have their resumes reviewed, and half-hour career presentations will be given throughout the day. The presentations will provide information on a variety of careers in assorted industries.

As of Monday, 31 businesses had signed up for booths, but more are expected. The businesses include the Kansas Soldiers' Home, Dodge City Workforce Center, Cargill Meat Solutions, JCI Industries/Dalton, Dodge City Community College Adult Learning Center, Dodge City Community College Educational Talent Search, Western Kansas Broadcast Center, Swift & Company, the city of Dodge City, the Dodge City Police Department, USMC, Youthville, RSVP, Victory Electric Cooperative Association, Arrowhead West, Kansas State Department of Continuing Education, Wal-Mart, Medicalodge, JAG Construction, Maupin Truck Parts Inc., Farm Bureau Financial Services, Foley Equipment Co., Conestoga Energy Partners, Southwest Kansas Area Agency on Aging, Securitas Security Services USA Inc., Pizza Hut, The Buckle, Western Plains Medical Complex, Beef Products Inc., Dodge City Public Library and Southwest Area Co-op 613.

Applications are still being accepted for booths. Interested businesses can contact Melissa McCoy or Alice Sweany at (620) 227-9399. Registration fee is $50, and each booth includes one 8-foot table and two chairs.
