Army....maybe we need Obama in there to get everybody on the bandwagon to get rid of the lobbyists, then when he gets rid of them that would pave the way for Huckabee to come in and repeal the 16th amendment and start the fair tax program.

Getting wholesale change isn't going to start at the top it has to start at the bottom with your state congress. It has to be a grass roots movement. The fat cats in Washington (both parties) aren't about to give up their cash cows no matter which side of the isle says what.

It's not going to change overnight though. The bad thing is that if a democrat is elected our country is going to go down a bad, bad road that will be hard to come back from. Once you start "giving out something for free" (healthcare) it's hard to take it back.

I am putting a young man from Canada in the Army. Over lunch today he told me his dad's tax rate was 46%. A pack of cigs is like 12 bucks and a 6 pack of beer is like 13 bucks. It's all taxes to help pay for the social health system that so many Americans think would be the greatest thing in the world.

This is what is generally called "responsible big business". It shows caring and kindness. In the early 90's, when there were layoffs from an insurance company closing my office, they brought in similar services to help us. Some took advantage and some didn't. They weren't laying off 10% of the city's employees, or more than 25% of their workforce. If they opened another shop in Kansas City again, I'd go back. To me, they were real people and interested in the well being of their employees. That speaks volumes to people looking at them for employment in another city.

Man I love politics and am loving this debate when it stays above board.

I personally don't like that implication that because I am for Obama that means I have just somehow been bamboozled by his wit and charm and haven't actually dove into his political stance. I have very much so and not just on his personal website. I'm all for someone to show me things that will change my mind but since I didn't make a quick choice over a youtube video (that was SOOOO not directed at you Sherry. I've actually had someone tell me that) it is unlikely that it will happen.

I think what we need to remember in debates like this is that most people who want to chime in and talk politics have done their homework. I respect that. I respect your choice of candidate whether or not I respect your actual candidate or not because I assume you aren't just choosing someone willy-nilly and I appreciate the same respect. Oprah didn't choose my candidate for me. I'm smart enough to do that myself.

It just seems that in general when someone finds out I am an Obama supporter they immediately assume I must have been charmed and couldn't possibly know what I am really doing.

This ends my rant that is only loosely based on the subject at hand. Carry on.

Obama is a very motivating speaker. He's rather young (and some would say inexperience whether that's good or bad), has a great presence on stage and gets people really fired up! I wish the Republicans had someone with that charisma. Short of that the idea that he will raise my taxes and push for "comprehensive immigration reform" (aka AMNESTY) just really kind of turns me off. That and the fact that he is one of the most LIBERAL people in congress. (according to the votes he DID cast)

It still looks like Hillary. She’s ahead in delegate count and ahead in the polls.

Obama wins states and Hillary wins delegates. Thank the party for coming up with the system. I don’t think either one can win enough delegates at this point to lock the nomination. Howard Dean already said they will not fight it out at the convention and there will be a deal cut before then.

Democrats(2,025 needed to win nomination)
Candidates number of delegates
Hillary Clinton 1095
Barack Obama 1070
John Edwards 26
Total 2191

Republicans(1,191 needed to win nomination)
Candidates number of delegates
John McCain 719
Mitt Romney 298
Mike Huckabee 234
Ron Paul 14
Total 1265

Democratic Presidential Nomination
RCP Average: Clinton +3.1%
Hillary Clinton 45.0%
Barack Obama 41.9%

Republican Presidential Nomination
RCP Average: McCain +25.0%
John McCain 46.7%
Mitt Romney 21.7%
Mike Huckabee 20.6%

Depends on where you look for info, I guess...

Barack Obama 943
Hillary Clinton 895
John Edwards 26

source - National overview - 2008 Primary Results - MSNBC.com

Clinton 1123

Obama 1120

source- RealClearPolitics - 2008 Elections - Democratic Delegate Count

Point is, I think it will be awhile before there is a clear winner. Obama won all three states yesterday by a pretty fair margin. Washington, Louisiana and Nebraska. He also won in the U.S. Virgin Islands. He is also leading in states won count, Obama 18 states Clinton 10 states.

ps- Hillary's campaign manager resigned or was fired today, not sure which....

Found another source from a drudge report link tonight that shows Obama in the lead.

Quote:
In the delegate chase, Obama has pulled ahead of Clinton, even when the support of uncommitted super delegates is figured in. According to CBS News estimates, Obama holds a razor-thin lead with 1,134 delegates overall to 1,131 for Clinton.

They’re constantly changing as they’re updated. Even Real Clear from your post six hours ago now shows Obama 1137 and Clinton 1134.
