I haven't seen anything in the Globe about the 4th of July, so I called the city to see what the schedule is. Here is what I was told, in case anyone is interested.

7:00 ice cream (for the first 300) in Wright Park
7:30 trumpet player
8:00 Cowboy Band concert
10:00 Fireworks Show (timed with music on Q97)

For a good seat to watch the fireworks, they said we can park in the Civic Center parking lot and the school district is opening up Memorial Stadium for people to watch in the stands.

They also said that no personal fireworks are allowed in the Civic Center parking lot. I'm glad for that because I was up there a few years ago and it was crazy dangerous, people shooting off bottle rockets and other stuff with all those people and little kids around. I saw cops in the parking lot last year enforcing the "no fireworks" rule, so I'm guessing they might be there again.

Glad to hear that there is a "no fireworks" policy in the CC parking lot, Miss Kitty. I also was up there a few years ago, and it was such a madhouse and so dangerous, that I have not attended the last few years. I was thoroughly convinced that the idiots were going to burn down the Civic Center! There were some LEO's there, but they were so outnumbered, and most of the idiots paid no attention to them anyway.

I'm personally just ready for the holiday to be over. They started shooting off fireworks Friday night, but the idiots in my neighborhood wait until 11 or 11:30 to start, then don't finish until 12:30 or later. LEO's are so busy dealing with everyone else, I couldn't get anyone up in my neighborhood. I haven't been to sleep until after 1:30am all week. I don't think they should be allowed to sell fireworks until the days they are allowed to set them off, maybe that would take care of the problem! I guess then though, we'd have to listen to it after the 4th until they used them all up! It's a no win situation! LOL

Can you imagine what the noise is like in Iraq or Afghanistan?

Just pop off a couple of 12 gauge rounds, 357! Either the fireworks will quiet down, or the cops will show up!
