I saw Brian during DC Days back in town. He said he just had knee surgery and he was now done with football. He said he just moved to Wichita from Michigan (the Grand Rapids deal) and was ready to go from there. There have been several guys from DC that went pro, I had a list somewhere and I will see if I can dig it up. Delpino and Goolsby are the most recent though.

I guess alot of my questions have been answered since my original post!

I think putting a new turf on the football field is the way to go!

As far as the cost...."WND?" could pay most of the expense. Greg Starks is behind the idea and it would be a good way to use our sales tax dollars. (for our kids)

We could have alot of great things here in Dodge, great things that benefit all of us.

Next, could be a new community swimming pool. The liner in the old one is shot and it needs to be replaced. I think adding a water park with it would be a great idea! "WND?" sales tax could pick up the bill on that facility pretty easily.

Leave it to Dodge City to be behind the times, just as most NFL teams are seeing that having a field with artificial turf is causing more injuries and are in the process of converting all Pro stadiums back to natural grass, Dodge City wants to step-up and take out natural grass and put in turf.

Getting the WND fund to pay for it on top of that, I can see why USD 443 is excited about that. That has to be one of the stupidest ideas I have ever heard.

I'll take that back.....spending money on a water park is the stupidest idea I have ever heard. With the rapid decline of our water table, and the nasty liquid that is pumped out of the ground in this area that people try to call water. You would be spending a fortune on chemicals to bring the pH to proper levels, reduce the conductivity of the water (ie. get rid of the high concentration of minerals and nitrates). Water is rapidly on it's way to becoming a precious material that will probably surpass oil in the cost of getting it out of the ground. The last thing we need in Dodge City is a water park.

Dodge City couldn't even support the mini-golf and go kart track at All-4-Fun!! I can assure you that the cost of attending a water park would be more than the price of addmission to All-4-Fun, and that is the reason that most people gave as to why it didn't survive. They felt that it cost too much. The only way that a water park could have a lower admission price is that if it were designed to be operated at a loss and never be designed to pay for itself.

Now there’s a plan that only a politician would come up with!

Along with bubba's statement about injuries, i think that an artificial turf takes an element from the game. The kids won't be playin the game that their fathers and grandfathers played. Part if football is goin out and gettin dirty. Makin a tackle and comin up with grass and soil stuck in your helmet. Synthetic things take away from true game.

Bubba,

Spending money on a water park and putting in a new turf at the football field makes a heck of alot more sense than dumping darn near $500,000.00 a year into DCRP and building a SEC.

Besides that they are..."Other related projects"... that will futher dev. our economy here in Dodge. But don't take my word for it...Talk to the Chamber, the CFAB, or anyone else who will gain at tax payers expense! I'm sure you know who they are!

Any city operated facility will always be a money loser and never pay for itself. But let's not worry about money. Let's be positive about everything that goes on here in Dodge.

We can afford anything! To say anything less may paint you as a negitive person, and God forbid we should have any of "THOSE" type of people here in Dodge City.

I don't see how my tax dollars putting turf on the high school football field will help anything in the community except the budget for USD 443.

The water park idea is just plain stupid no matter how you look at it.

The Chamber is always (heavy sarcasm is intentional) looking out for our best interests. The Chamber even wants to put a toxic waste dump and recycling center with no operating plan less than a mile from our city limits. Speaking of which, there is a meeting about that in the Rose Room in the basement of the old Lora Locke Hotel on Monday 9/25/06 at 7pm. Everybody should attend to let the zoning board how many are opposed to this.

Can anybody tell me where and when are the City Commission meetings. I want it to be known that if they use sales tax money to upgrade the football field turf that I want the gates to the stadium unlocked 24/7 so that I can have access to the facility. I helped pay for the turf and upgrades, I should be able to use the facility to walk laps around the track, or during family get togethers go over and play a little family football on the turf that I paid for.

If the money is spent, it needs to be unlocked 24/7, because I sometimes work evening and midnite shifts as well as days, so there might be times that I want to go walk some laps at 1 or 2 AM.

City Commision Meetings are held Everyother Monday at the City Court Building. There's a sign in City Hall, next to the Water Office Window showing when the next one is. I think it's the 1st and 3rd mondays, but check there to be sure. And I think meeting time is at 7:00. If you go in the North Door, for City Court, I think it's labeled "City Commision", but not 100% sure that's what it says. One of the clerks there during the day can show you. I've been in the room, but it's been a couple of years.
