Another Bus Blunder

I recently witnessed another bus screw up. I sat behind #82 on 8th ave. This particular bus driver didn't use loading lights and gave no indication of loading the children. I sat there a good 5 minutes.....he finally let the children on with no lights. I called the bus barn and was answered by some gal talking baby talk. (very professional cuku The young gal I talked to seemed less than concerned with my observation. I hope the new trans. supervisor gets rid of the staff that has no idea how to do their jobs.

and replaces them with ...... somebody even worse? The new bus superintendent probably needs to retrain some of the staff, but wholesale cleaning house won't help right now - they have to get through the rest of the year - at least till Christmas break. IMHO anyway.

I would have to agree. It just chaps my @#$, when a complaint/observation is made and I have a good idea it never made it to a supervisor.

I get that. The best way to make sure your observations don't fall on completely deaf ears is to make them in writing to the bus superintendent. With a carbon copy (anyway it was carbon copy in the old days!) to the School Superintendent and a carbon copy to the Dodge City Daily Globe. You don't necessarily have to send the carbon to the Globe, but seeing the notation there will likely get some attention from the school super. And if you don't get a reply within a reasonable amount of time, simply mark a copy 'second request' in red and send it again. Only this time, really sending it to the Globe might stir something up. The kids aren't safe in the meantime, but unless we can get the parents to take their kids to and from school, there really aren't any better alternatives.

Good bus drivers are hard to find. Sometimes because of the schedule - it doesn't work well with other jobs; sometimes because the bus driver just doesn't like kids. And they don't get paid squat, either. I'm seeing something I really don't like - and that's the people we really count on, we don't pay. I make much more than teachers up here - and I'm not entrusted with young people's minds. It's really kind of strange.

Have a good evening, everybody!

I luckily never had to ride the bus to school here in good ole DC. But, I remember back in the day when the kids got on the bus, it went and picked up other kids, and then dropped them off at school. When did this whole cattle herding thing by the football field come into play...and, more importantly, WHY?? I am sure there is a good reason for it...I just dont know what it is!

My only complaint with the busses, other than the occasional inconsiderate driver who chats with parents while holding up traffic, is the excess stopping. When I road the bus we were required to meet the bus at a bus stop. It seems to me that these busses stop every two blocks to pickup 2-3 kids. Heaven forbid the kids should need to walk to catch a bus.

I say, let them walk like we used to have to do. If kids could just go to their local neighborhood school, instead of being bussed all over hell's half acre, it would be more convenient for everybody. Plus save the taxpayers alot of money. The only kids having to ride a bus are the ones in the rural areas who can't walk to school. And Special Education type kids.

It never hurt us, and maybe it would give them some sense of responsibility!
Plus, exercise is good for the little boogers!!

How right you are, this really chaps my ass. Get a central location and pick them up or drop them off there. No need to hold up a long line of cars by making so many stops.
