I think the point has come that the City Manager and City Commissioners need to start looking at cutbacks. It may be hard to do and I'm sure the departments and areas that have to have cutbacks will bitch and moan about it. But, as far as I'm concerned, a city budget is only different from a personal budget because of the larger numbers. When things get tough, you have to make tough decisions and start doing without some things. I've done it before in my budget, as I'm sure most of you have done as well. The city is at that position now where you can't just spend more and more money. You have to start cutting back.

Does anyone notice when politicians talk about a tax cut they ask how they can afford it.

They never ask how the taxpayers can afford a tax increase.

Well said Bubba!! I know I have learned to do with less in the current economic climate. Government and Schools only compound our hardship when they refuse to do with less and take MORE of our money from us.

We need to "Just say NO!" to these negitive, tax and spend individuals.

High property taxes and sales taxes have never created economic growth. We can not tax ourselves rich, no one ever has!

Maybe we could start an "uprising"! Might as well throw in a "civil war" too!

Arizona passed a law that requires business to hire legal immigrants with penalties applied if that business does not comply. I have a brother in Arizona and he tells me that the school that his daughter attends had a DROP of over 500 students because of this new law.

What would happen in Dodge City to our school system if this law was passed in Kansas? Please note that I believe Oklahoma has this same statute on file.

If we don't pass this immigration law on a state level, where will all these illegals end up?

We could save all of that money for building all those new schools.

Duh, DODGE CITY, evidently!
Maybe they could open a decent restaurant or a casino in those empty schools.

Number of students down last three years

Heard USD guy say that -- don't know the numbers, but while he was concerned -- duh -- I thought -- good, save money, smaller classes.

But then I forget that the USD Admin. jobs get paid more if there's more students. So, no win situation for them if we actually save money, etc.

And the point is very well taken -- if not this year, by next there will be more laws about illegals. Thus many fewer students. Time for USD to cut back is Before that happens. We don't need new schools right now. The middle school actually doesn't have more students now (with ony 7th & 8th grades) than it did in the 1960s -- just more offices.

Sorry, but shouldn't be on the table at all.
