| Ok. i admit i wasnt thinking about the whole " shift " idea, BUT i still stand by what i said earlier, THIS ISNT ABOUT WHAT RACE ANYBODY IS. Made in the USA took what was said and made it about RACE. I believe the school board member made it about RACE. Sorry for not being clear earlier. |

| Trust me when we get off on the "race" thing - there won't be any doubt left that "race" is what we are talkin about. I do wonder tho since actually mitUSA and I are both talkin bout money - let me be the one to actually ask the "race" issue. You do realize DC is now prodominetly hispanic. Those hispanic for the most part are employed as shift workers at the packing plants. The problem is not that hospital or nursing home workers can't get thier kids to school. Note that these industies were "shifts" from the very conception - Packing plants eased into "shift" work. So why hasn't this been an issue before???? Trust me healthcare workers don't make as much as some plant workers. So tell me how is this NOT about race? "Those people" could be plant workers, shift workers or ethnic workers. Seeing that "shift" school has NEVER been an issue........ which one do you think it is????? I think the statement "those" related to SHIFT workers that are whinning...............OMG...... most of those are plant workers that are hispanic I bet.............That isn't racists - that my friend is just the way it is.......... Don't need no colored glasses or fancy words for the truth.......... Please correct me if I'm wrong but as a healthcare worker myself I know what it's like to have to have a daycare that opens at 5:30 or 6 am... I know what it's like to not see my children much more than 4 hours a day, I know what it's like to pay someone to take my children to school and take care of them after school. It often took most my salary but I never once even entertained the thought that the ISD should fork over the money to change it's hours so they could better serve me. Could that be cause I'm white? or could that be cause I was born here and know better?.......... Nope - must be just the way it is........ It aint bout me - it's bout my kids and what THEY need.

|
How about some clarification. Others are thinking of shift as in running the school normal days 12 months a year with students going 9 of 12 but not at the same time.
You're right as usual, Hiway! Anyway, that's what I was talkin' about. And it doesn't have anything at all to do with shift workers. It has everything to do with saving taxpayer money and whether the voters would go along with it.

| On the shift school thing...wouldn't you have to hire more teachers? How would they do the school activities such as debate and the sports? Would they have practices held in shifts? LOL

| The teacher-hiring was one thing I didn't ever catch from the conversations. I would expect, though, that a teacher's salary would be based on availability. If a teacher, for instance, was available for all terms, then their salary would be higher than for one that was available for only 3 out of 4 terms or 2 out of 5 terms.
